Southern Vermont gets the Blues

Consistently named a Top Ten Summer Event by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce the Vermont Blueberry Festival held during the peak of blueberry season in the Deerfield Valley of Southern Vermont returns July 29th through August 7th 2011. The festival has also been named a Top 20 Vermont Event by Yankee Magazine for summer 2011.

Over 200 gallons of Blueberry Jell-O slipping and sliding fun, Vintage Cars, a blueberry pie eating contest, Blueberry Ball, Blueberry picking and a Blueberry Block Party this week long event brings in visitors from near and far. In it’s forth year the festival invites festival goers to pick up their Passport to Blue Adventures filled with specials, promotions and events throughout the Deerfield Valley.

The Festival kicks-off on July 29th with a Family (bring your own) Picnic and Jell-O Slide (Sponsored by Kraft Foods and North Star Bowl & Pizza) donations for the Deerfield Valley Food Pantry will be accepted at this event, the July 30th Blueberry Parade and Craft Show in West Dover . The festival ending culminates the following weekend with the Blueberry Block Party complete with a Blueberry Bake-off, live band and sidewalk chalk in the center of Wilmington on August 6th.

Throughout the week local businesses will offer specials on blue products or drinks, a story telling pajama party in a blueberry patch, wine tasting, gallery openings of blue inspired art and a blueberry pie-eating contest (a full schedule is available on www.vermontblueberry.com).

Bluest Eyes Contest August 6 at Honora Winery in Jacksonville, VT

Festival goers will also enjoy exploring the traditional New England Villages of Wilmington, Dover and Jacksonville, beautiful Harriman Reservoir and an abundance of hiking and biking trails. The Deerfield Valley is located in the shadow of Mount Snow, the closest big mountain resort to Boston, New York City and Philadelphia.
