This fun and educational conference will focus on empowering all Deerfield Valley business owners with free web & social media tools that are currently available in today’s marketplace. Topics of the conference include: web site “tricks of the trade”; how to bridge the gap from old media to new media; understanding the habits, expectations and spending patterns of the 18-35 consumer demographic; how business owners can feel comfortable using the web to grow and expand their businesses; and most importantly, how all of this fits into life in the Valley. Also included will be some current economic statistics about the valley and discussion of how to grow the local economy by using web, social media and new technologies.
Speakers are scheduled to include Elizabeth Goss, regional sales director of LivingSocial.com, and Philip Gilpin, Jr., local web designer and former business analyst at HBO (Home Box Office).

Consistently named a Top Ten Summer Event by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce the Vermont Blueberry Festival held during the peak of blueberry season in the Deerfield Valley of Southern Vermont returns July 29th through August 7th 2011. The festival has also been named a Top 20 Vermont Event by Yankee Magazine for summer 2011.
Over 200 gallons of Blueberry Jell-O slipping and sliding fun, Vintage Cars, a blueberry pie eating contest, Blueberry Ball, Blueberry picking and a Blueberry Block Party this week long event brings in visitors from near and far. In it’s forth year the festival invites festival goers to pick up their Passport to Blue Adventures filled with specials, promotions and events throughout the Deerfield Valley.
The Festival kicks-off on July 29th with a Family (bring your own) Picnic and Jell-O Slide (Sponsored by Kraft Foods and North Star Bowl & Pizza) donations for the Deerfield Valley Food Pantry will be accepted at this event, the July 30th Blueberry Parade and Craft Show in West Dover . The festival ending culminates the following weekend with the Blueberry Block Party complete with a Blueberry Bake-off, live band and sidewalk chalk in the center of Wilmington on August 6th.
Throughout the week local businesses will offer specials on blue products or drinks, a story telling pajama party in a blueberry patch, wine tasting, gallery openings of blue inspired art and a blueberry pie-eating contest (a full schedule is available on www.vermontblueberry.com).

Mount Snow Makes Big Statement with New Lift

WEST DOVER (March 5, 2011) – Mount Snow has announced that it has accepted a bid to replace the Summit Local triple chair lift with a new Leitner Poma high-speed detachable six-passenger bubble chairlift. The “six pack” chairlift will be the first of its kind on the East coast and demonstrates Mount Snow’s commitment to providing the best experience possible for their guests.
“Our goal at Mount Snow is to provide the best possible product for our guests. We are continuously making upgrades to our infrastructure to ensure a quality experience for our guests. We feel that installing this state-of-the-art chairlift in order to increase our high speed capacity out of the main base area is in line with this commitment,” said Jesse Boyd, VP of Operations for Peak Resorts.
The six pack lift will have a ride time of just seven minutes, reducing the ride time of the current lift by nearly half. The new lift’s bubble chairs look like conventional chairlifts but have a plastic shield, or bubble, that encloses the chair. Bubble chairs provide shelter from inclement weather and the convenience of ski-on, ski-off loading and unloading. Unlike a gondola, skiers and snowboarders keep their equipment on, get on the chair as they would a conventional chairlift, and then pull the bubble down around them.
“Let’s face it, Vermont has its cold days. After review of several lifts, I believe this six pack lift best meets our needs. Its bubble chairs will provide protection on cold days without slowing down the loading process” said Mount Snow General Manager Kelly Pawlak.
With this lift, Mount Snow will have three high-speed lifts in its main base area with a total uphill capacity of 8100 skiers per hour. This will greatly increase the time Mount Snow guests spend on the ski trails instead of waiting in lift lines.
Every night the chairs will be run off the line and stored in a heated storage barn, which has its advantages. First, the barn’s steady temperature helps to prevent fogging and ice build up on the bubbles. Second, should the mountain receive icing overnight, the lift line can be quickly de-iced, and the lift will be able to operate as soon as the chairs are deployed.
Along with the new six pack lift comes upgrades to the Grand Summit Express high speed quad. The upgrades include enclosing the terminal at the base of the mountain to shield guests from weather elements and replacing all 172 of the chairs with new chairs that feature safety bars and footrests.
With the purchase of the new six pack lift, Peak Resorts will have invested over $18 million in capital improvements to Mount Snow, including the installation of state-of-the-art snowmaking technology featuring 254 fan guns.

Mount Snow Salutes the American Military
WEST DOVER (December 15, 2010) – Mount Snow has announced that it will give free Fanfare cards to active military personnel. In order to obtain this card any active member of the military just has to show their military ID at the season pass office in the Clocktower Building. The complimentary Fanfare card they will receive is good for 50% off midweek tickets, 25% off weekend, and 10% off all holiday tickets.
The idea was presented to Mount Snow’s Marketing Director Greg Fisher by Senior Chief Petty Officer Brian Nichols of the U.S. Coast Guard. “I received an email from Petty Officer Nichols and thought it would be a great way for us to thank those who put their lives on the line for us. I passed the request on to our owner and he quickly approved it. We feel it’s a small gesture of thanks that we can provide,” said Fisher.

Each year, a panel of independent judges chooses Vermont’s best activities, selected for their diversity and wide appeal. The Vermont Chamber of Commerce announces the highly anticipated 2011 Top Ten Summer and Fall Events. The 2011 award recipients display a wide variety of unique Vermont attributes that will provide something fun for everyone in all corners of the Green Mountain State.
In order to qualify as a Vermont Chamber of Commerce Top Ten Event, events must appeal to out-of-state visitors as well as Vermonters, and to a diverse audience, including children and families. Events should also be representative of the Vermont brand, featuring time-honored as well as contemporary experiences. Due to the additional attention a Top Ten Award garners, the event must be able to accommodate an influx of visitors up to twice the normal count.

Vermont Locavore Culinary Competition: winning chefs and dishes
Winning dishes named at inaugural Vermont Locavore Culinary Competition
A new component of the 2010 Vermont Life Wine & Harvest Festival was the inaugural Locavore Culinary Competition held at Mount Snow on Sept 26. Competing for top honors were recently named “Chef of the Year” Amy Chamberlain, chef/owner of The Perfect Wife Restaurant & Tavern, Manchester, Ismail Samad, head chef of The Putney Inn, Putney, Susannah Walker, head chef of The Wilmington Inn, Wilmington and Tristan Toleno chef/owner The Riverview Café, Brattleboro.
The four chefs were paired at random into two teams. Each team had 1-hour 15-minutes to create an appetizer and a main course for three judges. Judging the competition were David Rachlin President & CEO of Grafton Village Cheese, Mary Nowlan Editor of Vermont Life and Lisa Sullivan owner of Bartleby’s Books Wilmington and The Book Cellar Brattleboro.
The chefs choose from a generously donated pantry of Vermont products including;
Danaher Fish Farm Trout, Fowl Mountain Farm Rabbit, Misty Knoll Farm Chicken, Boyden Beef Farm, Vermont Butter & Cheese, Champlain Apiaries, Brattleboro Food Co-op, Blue Mountain Produce, Olivia’s Croutons, Sprague & Son Maple, Mother Myrick’s Chocolate, Side Hill Farm Jam, North East Kingdom Mustard, Vermont Smoke & Cure, Grafton Village Cheese, The Hermitage Inn, Boyden Vineyards, Honora Winery, Putney Mountain Winery, Shelburne Vineyards, North Branch Winery, Side Hill Farm Winery, Eden Ice Cider and Woodchuck Cider.
Judges scored on taste, creative use of Vermont products, appropriate wine or cider pairing and presentation. In the appetizer category the team of Ismail Samad and Amy Chamberlain won with a Rabbit Three Way with brown butter and acorn squash paired with Eden Ice Cider. The judges were impressed by the beautiful presentation, fantastic use of Vermont products and the superior taste. In the entrée category the team of Susannah Walker and Tristan Toleno won with a Roasted and Braised Chicken with Grafton cheddar potato gnocchi and acorn squash paired with Snow Farm Vineyard Vidal Blanc. The vertical presentation of the plate, creative use of Vermont products and out of this world taste topped the list of comments by the judges.
The 3rd Annual Vermont Life Wine & Harvest Festival the collaboration between the Mount Snow Valley Chamber of Commerce and Vermont Life Magazine is a weekend long event held during peak foliage season has been honored as a Top Ten Fall Event in Vermont as well as a Top 100 Event by the American Bus Association for 2011.
