DOVER, VERMONT—The folks in Dover, Vermont are warming up the grill as preparations for the 5th Annual Taste of the Deerfield Valley get underway. The culinary weekend held from Friday, September 10 through Sunday, September 12 will feature honored guest and World Champion BBQ and TLC's BBQ PITMASTERS star Myron Mixon of Jack's Old South, considered one of the best BBQ cooks who ever lived. Mixon is the three-time winner of Memphis in May, the World Championship of BBQ, and competes throughout the year in other major BBQ Championships.
Joining Mixon will be Chef Robert Barral, owner of Café Provence in Brandon, Vt. and a native of the Provence/Languedoc area of Southern France. A Vermont TV star, Chef Robert makes frequent cooking appearances on the CBS affiliate, WCAX-TV in Burlington. He specializes in gourmet cuisine inspired by Southern France and the Mediterranean.
The weekend kicks off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, with a VIP BBQ Tasting Dinner at the Hermitage Inn, featuring Mixon and his world championship BBQ. The evening dishes up a cooking demonstration and beer pairing showcasing beef brisket, chicken, ribs and a whole hog. Side dishes will include corn on the cob, coleslaw, baked beans and dinner rolls. Beer pairings will be selected by g.housen.
On Saturday from 9am –12 Noon, there'll be a cooking show at the Mount Snow Resort in Dover with Chef Robert Barral paired with the Vermont Junior Iron Chef champions from the Twin Valley Schools. Mixon will join the show and share his secrets of rubs, sauces, and World Championship BBQ. Ticket holders will savor a taste of his specialty Pulled Pork Sliders.
Following the show, the gates will open at 12 Noon to the public for the 5th Annual Taste of the Deerfield Valley hosted by Celebrate the Valley. Those attending the Taste will have the opportunity to feast on culinary masterpieces from over a dozen of the Deerfield Valley's top-rated restaurants, including The Hermitage, the Matterhorn, Harriman’s Restaurant, Maple Leaf Malt & Brewery, Readsboro Inn, River Valley Market, the Roadhouse, the Sitzmark, Snow Mountain Market and the Wilmington Inn and Tavern—and vote their favorite. Along with a craft show, and the Art on the Mountain juried art show, attendees will enjoy a variety of local wine and beer. There will be plenty of activities for the kids, as well.
